Privacy Policy

Spwit is a bill-splitting app. It is designed to work with as little data as possible: there are no accounts, no logins, and no advertising or third-party analytics. This policy explains what data Spwit handles and why.

What stays on your device

Your profile (your name and any payment handle you enter), the people you save, and your split history are stored locally on your phone. They are not uploaded to us unless you explicitly share a bill. Deleting the app removes this on-device data.

Receipt photos

When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to our server and forwarded to Google's Gemini API to read the line items and totals. Photos are processed only to extract this text and are not stored by Spwit after processing. Receipt photos are never included in a shared bill.

Contacts

If you choose to add someone from your phone's contacts, Spwit reads only the contact you select — typically their name and, if you pick it, a phone number — to add them to a split. Spwit does not read or upload your full address book.

Shared bills

When you create a share link, the bill's contents — the people on it (names and any payment handle or phone number you added), the items, and the amounts — are stored on our server so anyone with the link can view what they owe. Share links use an unguessable id and are not listed or indexed. Stored bills are automatically deleted after 90 days, and you can delete a shared bill at any time from the app.

Payments

Spwit does not process payments. When you settle up, Spwit opens a pre-filled link in Venmo or Zelle; the payment happens entirely within those apps, and Spwit never sees your card, bank, or login details. If a payer taps “Pay” on a shared bill, Spwit records only that the person marked themselves as paid.

Service providers

Spwit relies on a few providers to run: Google (Gemini API, to read receipts), Turso (database, to store shared bills), and Vercel (hosting). These providers process data only to provide their service to Spwit.

Tracking & children

Spwit does not track you across apps or websites and does not show ads. Spwit is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your choices

You control what leaves your device: don't share a bill and nothing is uploaded. You can delete any shared bill from the app, and all shared data expires automatically after 90 days.
